Arizona’s recent GOP primary election shocked the country with a massive Republican turnout, smashing expectations and boosting Republican gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake to a resounding victory.
Lake posted an election update on Friday that broke some big news: “CONFIRMED: This election we set a Primary RECORD for the highest Republican turnout in the history of Arizona.”
According to a report from Fox Metro News, local analyst and ABC 15 journalist Garrett Archer shared on Wednesday that the number of GOP votes combined with what was left to count indicated with “near certainty” that Republicans would smash primary turnout records.
On Friday, Archer tweeted, “729,086 Republicans have cast a ballot in the 2022 primary so far. There are ~200K outstanding ballots over in the state. The @azgop vote will be a primary record.”
Per Fox Metro News, Republican voters outnumbered Democrat voters on Thursday by 157,753 votes.
Archer additionally tweeted on Friday, “It looks like when everything is counted we will be at ~35% turnout 1.46 million ballots cast. 2020 primary holds both the raw and relative records of 36.4% turnout and 1.45 million cast.”
On Saturday, votes in the Grand Canyon State were still being counted.
Regardless of where the record ends up, Lake’s victory in Arizona was staggering. The Trump-backed candidate and former news anchor captured the majority of same-day votes. Lake additionally won every single county in Arizona, netting a landslide victory for Trump’s America First agenda.
The Kari Lake War Room, her official campaign account, commented on the developing vote counting on Twitter, poking a stick at Katie Hobbs, Lake’s Democrat gubernatorial opponent heading into November. Hobbs is also the current Arizona secretary of state.
Her campaign account remarked, “Arizona is still counting votes three days out from an election, but Secretary of State @katiehobbs still found time to make her daily cable news appearance.”
They added, “She’s so busy auditioning for her next job, she forgot to do her current one.”
