‘ROCKET CITY’: Space Command moving to Huntsville, Alabama, as America expands power in the skies

by Summer Lane

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Huntsville, Alabama, will be the new home of the U.S. Space Command, referring to it as “Rocket City,” much to the delight of a cadre of political allies smiling in the Oval Office.

“Most importantly, this decision will help America defend and dominate the high frontier, as they call it,” President Trump said.

During his announcement on Tuesday, President Trump explained that, during his first term in the White House, his administration initially considered Huntsville as the location for the Space Command.

During the Biden administration, that decision was overlooked, and the headquarters was temporarily moved to Colorado.

“This will be there for, hopefully, hundreds of years,” President Trump said of the new Huntsville location.

“In Huntsville, Space Command will play a key role in building the Golden Dome,” Trump continued, referring to his ordered missile defense shield.

“Canada called,” he added. “They want to be a part of it…we’re going to work something out with them.”

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth made brief comments to mark the occasion, praising the president’s leadership for coming into play at the “right place, right time, for the right reason.”

“Whoever controls the skies controls the future of warfare,” he noted.

Vice President J.D. Vance also highlighted the importance of achieving space supremacy as the world moves toward an increasingly technologically advanced future. “The entire infrastructure of the battle[s] of the 21st century will be in space,” Vance remarked.

Importantly, Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville told reporters that the Space Command move from Colorado to Alabama will save taxpayers $480 million.

“It is the perfect place for Space Command,” he said. “…If I thought it needed to go somewhere else because I understand, the security of our country, I’d be for that. But the best place for Space Command is Huntsville, Alabama.”
