Secretary of State Marco Rubio is laying out a bold path forward in Gaza, emphasizing that peace must be established. Rubio spoke at President Trump’s Board of Peace meeting on Thursday, where he discussed the future rebuilding of Gaza following the war between Israel and Hamas.

In a post on X, Sec. Rubio shared his comments and outlined the Trump administration’s vision for the future.

“There is no plan B for Gaza. Plan B is going back to war,” Rubio said. “Plan A, the only path forward, is one that rebuilds Gaza in a way of enduring and sustainable peace where no one has to worry about returning to conflict, human suffering, and destruction.”

Rubio credited President Trump with using the power of the presidency to “think outside the box” to resolve the conflict in Gaza and establish a path forward. During the Board of Peace meeting, President Trump said nine member nations had agreed to contribute $7 billion towards reconstruction in Gaza.

“This was a very unique crisis in Gaza, one that the existing international institutions could not solve or figure out,” Rubio said. “It needed a very specific type solution that required the partnership of all the nations that are here.”

Rubio said members of the Trump administration had taken the unique approach of going to the U.N. and assembling a group of nations to address the issue. “We have a long ways to go,” Rubio said. “There is a lot of work that remains and it will require the contribution of every nation-state represented here today.”

Rubio shared the strategic framework presented to the Board of Peace which included a plan to be led by the U.S. with assistance from the international community. The plan included participation from governments, multilateral bodies, and private-sector entities to rebuild Gaza while focusing on economic and security needs.

Rubio said the Trump administration hoped this approach to diplomacy could be adopted and applied to international crises as they arise. “We hope that this can serve as a model for other complex and difficult situations so they can be solved in the same way,” Rubio said. “Right now the focus is on this one. We have to get this right.”
