The Secret Service has expanded its security presence at the White House, Mar-a-Lago, and other protected locations nationwide following the escalation of military operations in Iran.
In a statement Saturday, the agency said it is “actively monitoring the situation in Iran” and coordinating with federal and local partners.
“The agency’s protective model is designed to be adaptable to meet the needs of the current security environment and ensure the continued safety of our protectees, protective sites, and the surrounding communities,” the Secret Service said, adding that the public may notice an increased law enforcement presence around protected sites.
According to ABC News, the heightened security applies to locations tied to President Donald Trump, the residence of JD Vance, the homes of former presidents, and certain federal facilities, including the FBI.
Security at Mar-a-Lago was already elevated following a recent incident in which an armed man carrying a shotgun and a gas can breached the estate’s inner perimeter and was fatally shot by Secret Service agents and a local deputy.
President Trump was at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend and, according to the New York Post, issued strike orders alongside members of his national security team. Gen. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, was with the president.
Vance was connected to the operation remotely from the White House Situation Room, where he was joined by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, the New York Post also reported.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed in the attack, according to President Trump. He posted on Truth Social that “one of the most evil people in History, is dead. This is not only Justice for the people of Iran, but for all Great Americans.”
