President Donald Trump is maintaining a strong and solid lead over potential 2024 presidential primary candidates, indicating widespread voter support for Trump on the heels of announcing his candidacy in November.

According to a new Economist/YouGov poll, which was conducted among 1,500 adult citizens online, President Trump was the number one choice to be the Republican presidential nominee in 2024, with 20 percent of support.

Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., came in as runner-up with 18 percent of support. Other candidates like Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and former Vice President Mike Pence garnered under 10 percent of support.

Respondents also indicated that inflation was the number one issue for them right now, with climate change and the environment clocking in as the second most important issue.

For Trump, Biden’s failed economic policies have only served to boost the Make America Great Again 2024 campaign. Per RSBN, a recent poll from Emerson College found that President Trump had netted 55 percent of support among 1,380 respondents in a hypothetical 2024 Republican primary. DeSantis, by contrast, netted just 25 percent in that same survey, giving Trump a monumental 30-point lead.

A late November Politico/Morning Consult poll also placed Trump at the front of the pack with 45 percent of support in a 2024 National Republican Primary race, with DeSantis coming in second at 30 percent. Other possible candidates, like Pence or former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley, all trailed with single-digit support.

“The polls are really strong, especially since Tuesday’s announcement…,” Trump stated on Truth Social in November.

A Harvard Caps/Harris poll conducted right after Trump’s mid-November 2024 campaign announcement revealed that the 45th president was maintaining a big lead, with 46 percent of support to DeSantis’s 28 percent.
