The Office of Public Information for the Supreme Court reportedly issued a press release on Tuesday morning confirming the authenticity of the draft opinion that was leaked Monday night.
The release states that although the draft opinion suggesting the court is positioned to overturn Roe v. Wade, “described in yesterday’s reports is authentic, it does not represent a decision by the Court or the final position of any member on the issues in the case.”
Justices may change their opinions on Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case up until the final ruling which is expected to come out in June.
Furthermore, Chief Justice John G. Roberts, Jr., issued a statement on the “betrayal” of the Court, stating that the leak was an attempt to “undermine the integrity of our operations.”
“It will not succeed,” he vowed.
Roberts added in a blistering statement, “This was a singular and egregious breach of that trust that is an affront to the Court and the community of public servants who work here.”
To pursue accountability, Roberts has “directed the Marshal of the Court to launch an investigation into the source of the leak.”
