A Homeland Security office complex near Cleveland was evacuated Monday after authorities discovered a suspicious package that reportedly contained a live explosive device, triggering a large law enforcement response.

The incident occurred at an office complex in Brooklyn Heights that houses a satellite office for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the agency’s Detroit Field Office.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, the package was discovered during a security sweep conducted by the Federal Protective Service.

“During the sweep, a K-9 alerted to a suspicious package in a UPS drop box,” a DHS spokesperson said.

Federal officials immediately evacuated the facility and contacted local law enforcement. Multiple reports indicated that at least seven nearby buildings were also evacuated as a precaution. The FBI, ATF, local police, and Federal Protective Service personnel responded to the scene.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives described the event as a “hazardous device incident.”

Officials later determined the threat had been neutralized, and an all-clear was issued allowing occupants to return to the building.

“FPS immediately contacted local law enforcement and initiated a full evacuation of the facility as a precaution,” DHS said. “The situation has been resolved and all clear has been given to reoccupy the building.”

The office complex at 925 Keynote Circle also houses additional federal operations, including facilities used by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations and the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor. No injuries were reported.

The investigation is being led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the ATF, which are working to determine who placed the device and whether the package was specifically intended to target the federal immigration facility.

Authorities have not yet announced any arrests or identified potential suspects.
