Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes the Texas-sized lead that President Donald Trump has seized in the Lone Star State, according to new 2024 Republican presidential primary polling.
A new report from CWS Research found that there has been a whopping 27-point net swing toward Trump from November 2022 to March 2023.
The poll was conducted among registered voters in Texas, among those who were likely to vote in the 2024 National Republican presidential primary election.
In November, CWS found that 43 percent of Texas voters preferred Governor Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., as the presidential nominee, while 32 percent preferred Trump.
However, in March 2023, their survey revealed that Texans had flipped their support on its head, preferring Trump at 43 percent to DeSantis’s 27 percent. This also demonstrates a 16-point net loss for DeSantis.
Although DeSantis has not yet officially announced a bid for president, he is rumored to be set to announce his potential candidacy in May 2023, after the close of the Florida legislative session, RSBN reported.
Since November, political polling trends have swung heavily toward Trump, solidifying his lead over a large field of declared and hypothetical candidates.
For example, a recent Premise Data poll found that Trump scored 42 percent among voters compared to DeSantis’s 26 percent. Their head-to-head poll also showed that Trump netted 53 percent of support for the 2024 nomination to DeSantis’s 26 percent.
Morning Consult found that between Feb. 13 and March 12, Trump had gained another 5 points, rising from 47 percent of support among GOP voters for the presidential nomination to 52 percent, giving him a 24-point lead over DeSantis, who lost support between February and March (31 percent in February to 28 percent in March).
Per RSBN, I&I/TIPP also found that Trump scored 51 percent of support among Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents, while DeSantis snagged 22 percent of support.
