Twitter owner Elon Musk has reinstated President Donald J. Trump’s Twitter account, ending speculation over the matter once and for all.

“The people have spoken,” Musk tweeted Saturday. “Trump will be reinstated. Vox Populi, Vox Dei.”

“Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” is a Latin phrase meaning, “The voice of people is the voice of God.”

Trump was banned from Twitter in January 2021 following the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, despite the fact that he was not present at the Capitol that day and encouraged his supporters to “peacefully and patriotically” make their voices heard.

On Friday, Musk polled Twitter users on whether Trump’s account should be reinstated. The poll received more than 15 million votes, with the final results showing that 51.8 percent of respondents felt that the 45th president’s account should be restored.

News of Trump’s reinstatement spread fast across the platform Saturday, with more than 70,000 users tweeting their reactions to the news.

While some were less than thrilled, Trump supporters, like Terrence Williams, celebrated the restoration of Trump’s account, thanking Musk for “doing the right thing.”

“Trump’s Twitter account should have never been banned,” Williams added.

Meanwhile, Foundation for Liberty and American Greatness President Nick Adams tweeted: “The restoration of President Trump’s Twitter account is the answer to the prayers of MILLIONS of patriotic Americans over the last two years. Prayer works!”

Even Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador supported the move as a win for democracy, noting, “The Statue of Liberty must not remain an empty symbol.”

However, responding to the news Saturday, Trump said he did not “see any reason for” returning to Twitter and would instead be using his own platform, Truth Social.

“Truth Social is through the roof,” he told the Republican Jewish Coalition via video. “It’s doing phenomenally well – the press hates to talk about it, but it’s doing phenomenally well.

Adding that Twitter had “a lot of problems” with engagement and bot accounts, Trump said that Truth Social was “taking care of voices that really want to be taken care of.”

“Truth Social has taken the place [of Twitter] for a lot of people,” he noted, “and I don’t see them going back onto Twitter.”
