President Donald Trump addressed the House of Representatives during his return to Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, where he backed House Speaker Mike Johnson in a unifying speech.
Johnson won the nomination to remain the House Speaker later on Wednesday.
“I am with him [Johnson] all the way,” Trump stated.
“I just want to thank everybody. You’ve been incredible,” he said. “We worked with a lot of you to get you in. And you helped me, and you helped me, too.”
Johnson’s win came one day after he told reporters that he was confident that he would retain his role in the House with Trump in leadership.
“Everybody has ideas on how to better improve our processes. And some of the frustrations that we had over the last year with the smallest margin in history, with control of only one-half of one-third of the federal government, will not be our concerns going forward because we have unified government,” Johnson said.
The speech came as a handful of House races remain undecided in California and Alaska. Trump declared victory with the House’s project majority of 219 seats and expressed his excitement about the upcoming session of Congress.
Trump also tapped multiple GOP House members for his new appointments. New York Rep. Elise Stefanik was named the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations while Florida Rep. Mike Waltz was named Trump’s National Security Adviser, while Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie is expected to serve as Secretary of Agriculture.
On Wednesday, Trump also nominated Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz as the Attorney General, RSBN previously reported.
“It is my Great Honor to announce that Congressman Matt Gaetz, of Florida, is hereby nominated to be The Attorney General of the United States. Matt is a deeply gifted and tenacious attorney, trained at the William & Mary College of Law, who has distinguished himself in Congress through his focus on achieving desperately needed reform at the Department of Justice,” Trump wrote.
