Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner wrote on X Wednesday that the Biden administration’s practice of offering taxpayer-backed mortgages is ending.
Turney posted the update to social media one day after informing the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) of the change.
“Today, HUD terminated Biden’s taxpayer-backed FHA mortgages for illegal aliens,” Turner wrote on X. “American taxpayers will no longer subsidize open borders by offering home loans to those who enter our nation illegally.”
In a second post, Turner added, “HUD is prioritizing Americans, not illegal aliens. @POTUS promised to end taxpayer subsidies for illegals, and today, we put an end to illegals receiving FHA home loans.”
He also wrote that, “There are 24,000 ‘ineligible’ members in HUD Housing. HUD-funded housing is for American citizens, not ‘ineligible’ or illegal aliens.”
Turner also addressed the issue this week in a Tuesday interview on Fox Business’ “Mornings with Maria.”
“The Biden administration prioritized illegal aliens over American citizens. We put an end to that to make sure that the American citizens are not only prioritized, but that they are the only priority when it comes to HUD funded public housing instead of illegal aliens,” Turner stated during the interview.
RSBN previously reported on Wednesday that the Trump administration is working to stop the use of taxpayer funds on public housing for illegal immigrants, according to a memorandum from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and HUD released on Monday.
The two federal agencies presented a plan to share data to identify illegal migrants living in public housing, vowing to work together to change the situation that surged during the Biden administration.
“We will safeguard precious taxpayer resources, and we will stop the harmful practices of the former Biden administration, which favored and prioritized illegal aliens over American citizens in the expenditure of housing funds and subsidies,” the memo stated.
“American tax dollars should be used for the benefit of American citizens, especially when it comes to an issue as pressing as our nation’s housing crisis,” HUD Secretary Scott Turner said. “This new agreement will leverage resources including technology and personnel to ensure American people are the only priority when it comes to public housing.”
“We will continue to work closely with DHS to maximize our resources and put American citizens first,” he added.
