The Executive Office for Immigration Review on Thursday announced the onboarding of dozens of new immigration judges as the Trump administration seeks to continue to restore law and order to America’s immigration system.
According to the Department of Justice, 77 immigration judges and five temporary immigration judges joined the immigration judge corps this week, bringing the total national count to almost 700.
“The Trump administration is committed to reestablishing an immigration judge corps that is dedicated to restoring the rule to the law in our nation’s immigration system,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche in a statement.
The DOJ noted that reducing the backlog in the immigration court has remained a priority for the agency. Since President Trump took office again in January 2025, the EOIR has addressed over one million cases and reduced the pending caseload by over 447,000, per the agency.
AG Blanche said on Thursday that the recent onboarding of immigration judges amounted to the largest judge class in the agency’s history.
“This could only happen thanks to President Trump’s decisive leadership and commitment to securing our borders,” he stated. “I also applaud EOIR’s leadership team for helping facilitate these hiring efforts and recruiting highly qualified and talented personnel in record time.”
Despite distracting crises in the media amid the war with Iran, deportation efforts and immigration remain top of mind for many Trump administration officials.
Tom Homan, the White House border czar, said recently that he wanted to see “more” deportations.
“We are after everyone, but again, you’ve got to prioritize those who are the biggest threats to our national security, public safety,” Homan told the Washington Examiner this week, via RSBN.
He said that even though “numbers are historic, I want more.”
According to the Department of Homeland Security, along with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, there have been 12 straight months of zero releases of illegal entrants into the American interior at the border under the Trump administration.
“Every minute of every day President Trump’s border security policies are making every American safer,” said BCP Commissioner Rodney S. Scott in a statement.
