The Trump administration is standing strong on crafting trade policies that prioritize American workers. On Wednesday, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer testified before the Senate Finance Committee regarding President Trump’s trade agenda.
The testimony followed President Trump’s issuance of new tariffs on Canada earlier this week and the implementation of a 25 percent tariff on goods from Brazil. Greer stressed that the administration remains focused on establishing policies that will strengthen the American economy and protect domestic workers from unfair international trade practices.
“The specific authorities this administration is using have changed but the trade strategy has not,” Ambassador Greer said. “We are committed to continuing to use tariffs and to negotiate deals to support the re-industrialization of our economy, protect American workers and increase their wages, and shrink our trade deficit.”
Ambassador Greer joined the administration in early 2025, shortly after President Trump returned to office following the 2024 presidential election. He has played a key role in implementing the president’s trade objectives, including the renegotiation of foreign trade agreements and the promotion of American-made products within the global marketplace.
Greer also noted that the policies of the administration are aimed at improving conditions for American workers, including increased wages and protection from uncertainties in the global trade market.
“For @POTUS and his administration, the answer is clear: we want an economy that is resilient from shocks and not dependent on foreign production for critical goods…” Greer said. “We want an economy that prioritizes American workers by protecting them from unfair trading practices and creating economic conditions that raise their wages.”
