In hundreds of highly classified phone calls with foreign heads of state, President Donald Trump was so consistently unprepared for discussion of serious issues, so often outplayed in his conversations with powerful leaders like Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Erdogan, and so abusive to leaders of America's principal allies, that the calls helped convince some senior US officials that the Presi

President Donald Trump is expected to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday about the war in Ukraine, according to the Associated Press.

Trump shared the news with reporters while flying from Florida to Washington, D.C., Sunday on Air Force One.

“We will see if we have something to announce maybe by Tuesday. I will be speaking to President Putin on Tuesday,” Trump said. “A lot of work’s been done over the weekend. We want to see if we can bring that war to an end.”

The discussion about a ceasefire will also include discussion about power plants and land, the report noted.

“We will be talking about land. We will be talking about power plants,” Trump said.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced that the two leaders would hold talks on Tuesday but did not disclose the topics of the discussions.

Last week, U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff traveled to Moscow to engage in negotiations related to the ongoing war.

Ukrainian diplomats recently reached an agreement with U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, to restore military aid and intelligence sharing to Ukraine in exchange for committing to an immediate 30-day ceasefire. Putin’s foreign policy adviser, Yuri Ushakov, dismissed the ceasefire proposal.

The move came after a visit to the White House by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in which plans to sign a mineral rights agreement abruptly ended following an argument with Trump.

Trump has applied pressure on both Ukraine and Russia to make a deal to end the conflict since returning to office.

In January, Trump shared a post to his Truth Social account calling on Russia to “make a deal” to end the conflict in Ukraine.

“I’m not looking to hurt Russia. I love the Russian people, and always had a very good relationship with President Putin – and this despite the Radical Left’s Russia, Russia, Russia HOAX. We must never forget that Russia helped us win the Second World War, losing almost 60,000,000 lives in the process, Trump began.

“All of that being said, I’m going to do Russia, whose Economy is failing, and President Putin, a very big FAVOR. Settle now, and STOP this ridiculous War! IT’S ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE,” he continued.
