President Donald Trump announced Callista Gingrich, wife of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, as his nominee to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland.

Trump shared the news in a Sunday announcement on Truth Social.

“I am pleased to announce Callista L. Gingrich will be our next United States Ambassador to Switzerland. Happily married to the Great Newt Gingrich, Callista previously served, with distinction, as my Ambassador to the Holy See,” Trump wrote.

“During her tenure, Callista worked to advance and defend international religious freedom, combat human trafficking, and provide humanitarian assistance around the World. Callista graduated, with honors, from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, with a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 1988. Congratulations!” he added.

In a post to X following the announcement, Gingrich wrote, “Thank you, Mr. President!  I am truly humbled and honored to be nominated to serve as the next U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland.”

Her husband, Newt Gingrich, also shared the post to his profile on X.

Gingrich previously served as U.S. Ambassador to the Holy See during Trump’s first term. Trump announced Brian Burch, president of CatholicVote, to serve in the role for his second term last week.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I am pleased to announce that Brian Burch will serve as the next United States Ambassador to the Holy See. Brian is a devout Catholic, a father of nine, and President of CatholicVote.”

Trump listed Burch’s accolades and reasoning for choosing the Catholic leader. “He has received numerous awards, and demonstrated exceptional leadership, helping build one of the largest Catholic advocacy groups in the Country. He represented me well during the last Election, having garnered more Catholic votes than any Presidential Candidate in History!” Trump added.

He concluded his post with, “Brian loves his Church and the United States – He will make us all proud. Congratulations to Brian, his wife Sara, and their incredible family!”

The announcement was one of several leadership nominees Trump shared over the weekend, including Mauricio Claver-Carone as a U.S. special envoy for Latin America.

“It is time to restore order in our own hemisphere,” Trump wrote. “Mauricio knows the region, and how to put America’s interests FIRST.”
