President Trump has nominated national security advisor Mike Waltz as United States Ambassador to the United Nations. Trump made the announcement on Thursday in a Truth Social post, praising Waltz for his work in putting America’s interests first.
“I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz as the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations,” Trump said. “From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first. I know he will do the same in his new role.”
Trump also announced that Secretary of State Marco Rubio would step in as acting national security advisor until a new appointment is made.
“In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as National Security Advisor, while continuing his strong leadership at the State Department,” Trump said. “Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly to Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”
Waltz’s nomination to serve as ambassador to the United Nations will require confirmation from the Senate. This marks the first major personnel shift during Trump’s second term.
Waltz responded positively in a post on X, sharing President Trump’s announcement of the nomination and declaring his commitment to continue serving the country.
“I’m deeply honored to continue my service to President Trump and our great nation,” Waltz said.
