Trump assassination attempt suspect Ryan Routh asked Judge Aileen Cannon to recuse herself from his case on Thursday due to her relationship with the 45th president.

Routh’s attorneys claimed that Cannon’s connection to Trump could create an appearance of partiality in their client’s case.

“Mr. Trump is the current Republican candidate for President in next month’s election. On the campaign trail, he has repeatedly praised Your Honor for her rulings in his case,” Routh’s attorneys wrote

“As the alleged victim here, he has a significant stake in the outcome of this case too. Were he to become President in the future, he would have authority to nominate Your Honor to a federal judgeship on a higher court were a vacancy to arise,” it continued.

Routh’s trial is currently scheduled for Nov. 18, just 13 days after the presidential election.

Cannon was randomly assigned the case involving Routh. Trump previously appointed her and Cannon was the judge who dismissed the classified documents case against him in Florida.

Routh is the sole suspect in the second assassination attempt against Trump. He was arrested after fleeing the Trump International Golf Course after shots were fired when he reportedly pointed his rifle through a fence at Trump from about 300-400 yards away.

As RSBN previously reported, federal prosecutors said that Ryan Routh spent a month stalking President Donald Trump after his August 14 arrival in Florida.

Following his arrest, investigators obtained Routh’s cell phone data to gather more information, offering additional details in a Justice Department report.

“On multiple days and times from August 18, 2024, to September 15, 2024, Routh’s cell phone accessed cell towers located near Trump International [Golf Course] and the former President’s residence at Mar-a-Lago” in Palm Beach, according to the filing.

Prosecutors also noted that Routh had a “handwritten list of dates in August, September, and October 2024 and venues where the former President had appeared or was expected to be present.”

The filing was made as part of a request to hold Routh in jail without bail during his appearance at a U.S. District Court in West Palm Beach.
