President Donald Trump blasted the “witch hunt” against French political leader Marine Le Pen after she was found guilty of embezzlement and banned from running in France’s 2027 presidential election.

Trump shared his concerns in a post on his Truth Social account late Thursday.

“The Witch Hunt against Marine Le Pen is another example of European Leftists using Lawfare to silence Free Speech, and censor their Political Opponent, this time going so far as to put that Opponent in prison. It is the same ‘playbook’ that was used against me by a group of Lunatics and Losers, like Norm Eisen, Andrew Weissmann, and Lisa Monaco,” he wrote.

“They spent the last nine years thinking of nothing else, and they FAILED, because the People of the United States realized that they were only Corrupt Lawyers and Politicians,” he continued.

Trump acknowledged that he did not know Le Pen personally but appreciated her work, calling for the politician’s freedom.

“I don’t know Marine Le Pen, but do appreciate how hard she worked for so many years. She suffered losses, but kept on going, and now, just before what would be a Big Victory, they get her on a minor charge that she probably knew nothing about – Sounds like a ‘bookkeeping’ error to me. It is all so bad for France, and the Great French People, no matter what side they are on. FREE MARINE LE PEN!” he concluded.

Vice President JD Vance also expressed his support for Le Pen during a Newsmax interview on Thursday.

“The Europeans, they are absolutely 100% our friends. But that relationship … it’s going to get stressed and it’s going to get tested if they keep on trying to throw opposition leaders in jail,” he said.

Elon Musk also reposted Trump’s message and added his support to “Free Le Pen!”

Le Pen, the longtime leader of the National Rally party and former EU lawmaker, is among 24 individuals convicted in a Paris court ruling on Monday for misusing millions of euros intended for EU political activities. The funds were allegedly used to benefit the party’s domestic agenda, with staffers listed as EU parliamentary assistants actually performing other roles, including serving as Le Pen’s bodyguard.
