President Donald Trump called on gun owners to vote ahead of the last day of voter registration in Pennsylvania.
Trump urged gun owners to act to “save your guns,” according to his Sunday Truth Social post.
“Gun owners must register to Vote, TODAY, if you want to save your guns. Our Second Amendment is under Siege by the Democrats. They want to confiscate your guns. BE SMART. VOTE!!!” he wrote.
The statement comes after a recent push by Republicans in the state to register hunters to vote. According to GOP voter registration activist Scott Presler, 30 percent of Pennsylvania’s hunters are not registered for the 2024 election.
“30% of Pennsylvania’s 930,000 hunters are not registered to vote,” he posted to X in July.
“If every hunter in PA registers to vote & votes, Trump wins the election,” he added.
Trump has long supported strong Second Amendment rights for gun owners, including in his platform policies.
“Defend our Constitution, our Bill of Rights, and our fundamental freedoms, including freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and the right to keep and bear arms,” is listed as number seven among his 20 policy statements.
In May, Trump also received the endorsement of the National Rifle Association.
“Given Trump’s pro-freedom record as president from January 2017-2021, as well as the strong pro-Second Amendment positions he continues to articulate today, this endorsement is hardly a surprise, especially given that the NRA also endorsed Trump in 2016 and 2020. Yet the obviousness of this endorsement shouldn’t obscure its importance—not at a moment in history like this,” NRA Editor-in-Chief Frank Minter wrote at the time.
“America, just now, is standing braced to the political winds with her feet on uncertain ground as she must decide, amidst all the rumble of competing campaigns and media spin and punditry, whether to turn to the hope of individual rights and brighter days for freedom, or to continue down a dark path,” he continued.
“At the 2024 NRA Leadership Forum in Dallas, Texas, last May, Trump said, ‘We will never give in. We will never give up … . The great silent majority is rising like never before … . Thank you very much to the NRA,’” Minter wrote in his conclusion to the endorsement.
“This kind of rational defense of Americans’ individual rights is what Trump gave us and what he again promises us. For this fundamentally important reason, the NRA-PVF has again endorsed Trump for president,” Minter stated.
