President Trump is calling out the Smithsonian for continuing to adhere to leftist cultural ideals. In a Truth Social post on Tuesday, Trump blasted the museum for its refusal to focus on positive aspects of American history.
“The Museums throughout Washington, but all over the Country are, essentially, the last remaining segment of “WOKE,” Trump said. “The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been — Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future.”
Trump’s comments come amid a push from the administration to review the museum’s curation ahead of the 250th American anniversary celebration scheduled for 2026.
On March 27, 2025, Trump signed the Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History executive order. The order stated the administration’s goal to “remind Americans of our extraordinary heritage, consistent progress toward becoming a more perfect Union, and unmatched record of advancing liberty, prosperity, and human flourishing.”
In communication with the Smithsonian, the administration laid out its plan to ensure the museum’s exhibits are consistent with the goals of the presidential directive ahead of the historic national celebration.
Trump noted that his administration has pushed back against so-called “woke” ideology on college campuses and that he planned to continue the process with American museums.
“We are not going to allow this to happen, and I have instructed my attorneys to go through the Museums, and start the exact same process that has been done with Colleges and Universities where tremendous progress has been made,” Trump said. “This Country cannot be WOKE, because WOKE IS BROKE. We have the “HOTTEST” Country in the World, and we want people to talk about it, including in our Museums.”
