The Trump campaign released details about past support for Medicare for All by Vice President Kamala Harris, despite recent remarks that she would not back it.
Trump Campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Levitt provided a strong response to the recent changes by the Harris campaign.
“Kamala Harris’ spokespeople are once again alleging she has flip flopped on her positions — this time saying she no longer supports socialist Medicare for All,” she wrote.
“Kamala needs to stop insulting the intelligence of voters and speak for herself to explain why she is running from every liberal policy she has ever supported. The mainstream media needs to stop being complicit in her lies and demand answers,” she added.
Levitt continued with a list of co-sponsored legislation for the Medicare for All Act, including her support for enrolling illegal immigrants in Medicare.
“Kamala co-sponsored the Medicare For All Act and supported enrolling illegal immigrants in Medicare, forcing hardworking American taxpayers to foot their healthcare bills. As for President Trump, he has remained consistent in his promise to bring down healthcare costs for hardworking American families,” she stated.
In a 2019 Facebook post, then-Senator Harris stated she was “proud” to support the Medicare for All Act.
“I am proud to co-sponsor Medicare for All with my Democratic colleagues because everyone should have easy access to quality, affordable health care. It’s time for all of us to jump into action and fight for this right,” Harris posted.
In a past media interview, Harris also stated, “I’ve always supported Medicare for All and I give credit to Bernie Sanders!”
In 2019, Harris also expressed her support for undocumented individuals to receive Medicare at taxpayer expense.
“Let me just be very clear about this. I am opposed to any policy that would deny in our country any human being from access to public safety, public education, or public health. Period.” Harris told CNN’s “State of the Union” at the time.
A campaign official reportedly told Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy recently that Harris would not push Medicare for All if elected president despite her past support on the issue.
