Trump celebrates Katie Britt’s victory over Mo Brooks in Alabama

President Trump is celebrating yet another victory of a Trump-endorsed candidate following Tuesday’s Alabama GOP Senate primary runoff election. Trump-backed Katie Britt defeated Rep. Mo Brooks in the race for the Alabama Republican Senate nomination.

According to the Washington Examiner, Britt has 65 percent of the vote to Brooks’s 35 percent. Brooks has conceded the race.

Trump took to Truth Social on Wednesday to celebrate his latest endorsed candidate’s victory. Trump wrote, “With the great ALABAMA win by Katie Britt tonight, I am pleased to announce that WE (MAGA!) are 12 WINS & ZERO LOSSES in U.S. Senate Primary races this cycle. We will do REALLY WELL in the upcoming General Election, also. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Britt, the former chief of staff to outgoing Alabama Sen. Richard Shelby, thanked her supporters in a Facebook post in which she wrote, “THANK YOU, Alabama! My family and I are truly grateful. Words cannot express our appreciation. The future of our great state is bright!”

The primary battle between Britt and Brooks underwent a major plot twist in March when President Trump withdrew his endorsement from Brooks after the senator urged voters to move on from Trump’s concerns about alleged voter fraud in the 2020 election, Washington Examiner reported.

Following those comments, Trump pulled his endorsement from Brooks.

The 45th president said, “Mo Brooks was a leader on the 2020 Election Fraud, and then, all of sudden, during the big rally in Alabama, he went ‘woke’ and decided to drop everything he stood for—when he did, the people of Alabama dropped him, and now I have done so also.”

In May, Trump officially endorsed Katie Britt for Alabama’s open Senate seat, and less than two weeks later, Britt won the initial Alabama primary. However, due to Alabama election law, the race went to a runoff election because Britt did not clear the necessary threshold of 50 percent to win outright, a result she remedied by winning 65 percent of the vote on Tuesday.
