President Donald Trump is calling on Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., to cancel the chamber’s August recess and prioritize confirmation of his administration’s nominees, citing major accomplishments in the first six months of his second term.
“Hopefully the very talented John Thune, fresh off our many victories over the past two weeks and, indeed, 6 months, will cancel August recess (and long weekends!), in order to get my incredible nominees confirmed,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Saturday night. “We need them badly!!! DJT”
The president praised Thune’s leadership and the Senate’s recent progress, but said more work remains, especially concerning confirmations that have been stalled by what he described as Democratic obstruction. He attacked Democrats for delaying votes and opposing measures such as the budget reconciliation bill and a $9 billion spending cut package targeting foreign aid and public media.
Trump marked Sunday as the six-month anniversary of his return to the White House, hailing the first half-year of his administration as one of the most effective in presidential history.
“Wow, time flies! Today is that Sixth Month Anniversary of my Second Term,” Trump wrote in another post.
“Importantly, it’s being hailed as one of the most consequential periods of any president. In other words, we got a lot of good and great things done, including ending numerous wars of countries not related to us other than through trade and/or, in certain cases, friendship,” he added.
Trump claimed that under his leadership, the United States had gone from what he called a “dead” nation to the “hottest and most respected country anywhere in the World.”
“Six months is not a long time to have totally revived a major country,” he said. “Happy Anniversary!!!”
The president also addressed recent internal conflicts within the Republican Party and scrutiny over the continued sealing of files related to Jeffrey Epstein. Despite legal barriers to releasing the documents, Trump said his approval within the party had grown stronger.
“My poll numbers within the Republican Party, and MAGA, have gone up, significantly, since the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax was exposed by the Radical Left Democrats and, just plain ‘troublemakers,’” he wrote.
“They have hit 90%, 92%, 93%, and 95%, in various polls, and are all Republican Party records. The general election numbers are my highest, ever! People like strong borders, and all of the many other things I have done,” the president continued.
