President Trump celebrated Colorado Republican Rep. Ken Buck’s impending exit from D.C. after the congressman announced this week that he would not be seeking reelection.
Trump wrote on Truth Social, “Good news for the Country! Congressman Ken Buck of Colorado, a weak and ineffective Super RINO if there ever was one, announced today that he won’t be running again, which is a great thing for the Republican Party.”
According to Politico, Rep. Buck confirmed on Wednesday that he would not run for reelection in Colorado, citing schisms within the party centered mainly on election integrity.
Buck said on MSBNC this week that he was “disappointed” with Republicans’ “inability in Congress to deal with major issues” and their reliance on the “lie that the 2020 election was stolen…”
Trump breezily responded, “He [Buck] knew long ago he could never win against MAGA, so now he is, like some past and present, auditioning for a job at Fake News CNN, MSDNC, or some other Country-destroying Leftwing Outlet. They can have him, and watch their Ratings go down still further, if that’s even possible!”
Surprisingly, Rep. Buck cast his vote for now-Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., in the recent Speaker election in Congress, per Politico.
Had he stayed in the race, Rep. Buck’s opponent in reelection would have been Trent Leisy, a small business owner and Navy veteran who claims to be a “die-hard supporter of President Trump.”
On Wednesday, Leisy attacked Rep. Buck’s criticism of President Trump’s plan to eradicate drug cartels at the southern border.
Leisy wrote on X, “Despite not being on the border, Colorado is still a border state due to fentanyl killing more Colorado children than any other state in the country. I will always fight to secure our border to PROTECT AMERICAN CHILDREN!”
He also called Buck a “RINO” who was “wrong once again!” Now, without Buck in the race, it may clear the way for Leisy to have a better shot at winning Colorado’s 4th District seat.
