President Donald Trump celebrated what he called a “Total exoneration” from the special grand jury investigating the 2020 presidential election and the president himself on Truth Social late Thursday, following the release of several sections of their investigative report.
“Thank you to the Special Grand Jury in the Great State of Georgia for your Patriotism & Courage,” Trump wrote. “Total exoneration. The USA is very proud of you!!!”
As reported by RSBN, a special grand jury in Fulton County, Georgia, had been looking into whether President Trump and his allies had committed any crimes surrounding the 2020 election, largely focusing on a pair of phone calls that Trump made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger.
“The long awaited important sections of the Georgia report, which do not even mention President Trump’s name, have nothing to do with the President because President Trump did absolutely nothing wrong,” an official statement from the Trump campaign said on Thursday.
The statement continued:
“The President participated in two perfect phone calls regarding election integrity in Georgia, which he is entitled to do – in fact, as President, it was President Trump’s Constitutional duty to ensure election safety, security, and integrity. Between the two calls, there were many officials and attorneys on the line, including the Secretary of State of Georgia, and no one objected, even slightly protested, or hung up. President Trump will always keep fighting for true and honest elections in America!”
According to Fox News, Fulton County District Attorney Fanni Willis will ultimately decide if Trump or any of his allies in the probe will be formally charged at some point later this year.
Trump’s statement on Truth Social comes after sections of the report were released by the judge overseeing the case. Per Fox News, the judge released the introduction, conclusion, and a section that included jurors discussing the possibility that several witnesses may have committed perjury.
