On Thursday, President Trump defended Judge Aileen Cannon, who is overseeing the so-called “classified documents” case in Florida amidst ongoing leftist criticism and attacks.
He wrote on Truth Social, “They are calling her terrible names, wrongfully threatening her with Impeachment, and disrespecting her, all because they want her to act like the dishonest, politically biased, and conflicted Judges in New York, and not like the fair and impartial Judge that she is.”
Cannon has been tasked with overseeing the case brought by Special Counsel Jack Smith, which is centered on documents taken from President Trump’s private home, Mar-a-Lago, in August 2022.
Recently, Judge Cannon ordered Trump’s team to refer to witnesses in their filings anonymously to protect them from public exposure, per The New York Times. However, the outlet described Cannon’s rulings on the case as “unorthodox” and claimed that her decisions “bogged down” the case “by a logjam of unresolved legal issues…”
Trump explained, “These Persecutors are using Third World tactics in a corrupt ploy to ‘play the ref.’ However, no matter how hard he tries, Deranged Jack Smith will never be Coach Bobby Knight, a Basketball Legend for all time, who led the last undefeated team in College Basketball. Coach Knight would always ‘play the refs,’ but not to change the last call, to change the next one….”
In the classified documents case, the defendants have proposed an August 12 trial start date. However, Trump’s legal team has argued that a “fair trial cannot be held until after the 2024 Presidential election,” although it is unclear if that argument will be enough to stop the trial from commencing amid such an intense time.
“The Weaponization of Law Enforcement, the Harassment of Fair Judges, and rampant Election Interference cannot be allowed to continue,” Trump remarked on Truth Social.
He concluded, “We have to end the Witch Hunts, win the most important Election in our History on November 5th, and Make America Great Again!”
