President Donald Trump shared new details about his upcoming pick for vice president during a new interview, including information on when the announcement is likely to occur.
Trump shared the thoughts on his running mate with Fox News host Sean Hannity during his “Hannity” program Monday night.
“But I think that probably within the next week, week and a half. Probably sometime —I’d love to do it during the convention, my people say that’s a little complicated. You know in the old days they would announce a vice president during the convention,” Trump shared concerning the timing of his running mate.
“Today, with modern-day technology you can’t do things you could’ve done 50 years ago very easily. But probably a little before the convention but not much. It could even be during convention that we do it. I’d love to do it during the convention, I think it would be a very interesting to build up and important for the convention, would make it even more exciting. It’s going to be amazing, in Milwaukee,” he continued.
Trump also shared the two specific focus areas for his vice presidential pick.
“We’ll be announcing soon and I think everybody’s going to be very happy, the choice will be very, very good,” he noted.
“It’s going to be a great vice president — meaning a person that can do a fantastic job as president because you always have to think of that first and then second somebody that helps you get elected, and there’s nothing wrong with that,” Trump added.
The most-noted contenders for Trump’s running mate have included Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio and North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum.
Others have continued to suggest a female running mate, such as South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem or New York Rep. Elise Stefanik. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton have also been mentioned as options for vice president.
Trump also revealed that he does not expect Biden to drop out of the presidential race. Even if Biden does, he would face Vice President Kamala Harris as the most likely candidate.
Asked if Biden dropping out would be a concern, Trump replied “We’ve prepared for him, but I don’t think it’s going to matter.”
