President Donald Trump has again proven his immense influence on the Republican Party after multiple Trump-endorsed candidates cruised to victory in Nebraska and West Virginia on Tuesday night, despite one loss.
Most notably, Rep. Alex Mooney was declared the projected winner in West Virginia’s GOP congressional primary.
After the state lost a House seat due to reapportionment following the 2020 U.S. Census, Mooney was forced to compete against Republican Rep. David McKinley to represent West Virginia’s 2nd Congressional District, according to Business Insider.
According to Fox News’ live election results, Trump’s endorsement proved vital as Mooney won with about 54 percent of the vote. His Republican opponent, David McKinley, came in a distant second, nearly 20 percent behind Mooney.
Both Mooney and Trump have repeatedly called GOP opponent McKinley a “RINO,” blasting the congressman for voting in favor of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and supporting the Jan. 6 commission.
“He betrayed you. David McKinley joined Nancy Pelosi in voting for the Jan. 6 anti-Trump witch hunt to attack our president and our values,” a Mooney ad claimed. “Then, McKinley backed Biden for a trillion dollar spending spree that’s creating record inflation.”
Mooney celebrated the victory by saying, “the voters of West Virginia spoke loud and clear tonight.” He also thanked the 45th president for his endorsement and support, the outlet further reported.
President Trump celebrated the win, congratulating Mooney on Truth Social.
“I Love West Virginia. Congratulations to Alex Mooney on his BIG WIN!!!” Trump wrote.
Trump-backed candidates West Virginia Rep. Carol Miller and Nebraska Rep. Adrian Smith won their primaries on Tuesday night as well. Charles Herbster, Trump’s pick for Nebraska governor, lost his bid. In his concession speech, he referred to the race as “one of the nastiest campaigns for governor in the history of Nebraska,” according to the New York Post.
President Trump’s 2022 endorsement success rate is now 58-1.
