In a surprising move, President Donald Trump endorsed two U.S. Senate candidates Monday for Tuesday’s Republican primary election in Missouri.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, “There is a BIG Election in the Great State of Missouri, and we must send a MAGA Champion and True Warrior to the U.S. Senate, someone who will fight for Border Security, Election Integrity, our Military and Great Veterans, together with having a powerful toughness on Crime and the Border.”
Trump added, “We need a person who will not back down to the Radical Left Lunatics who are destroying our Country.”
While Trump’s initial comments mirror similar endorsements he has given to dozens of America First candidates in this year’s midterm primary elections, the remaining portion of his endorsement presented a clear departure from his endorsements in other races.
Instead of endorsing a specific candidate in Missouri’s GOP U.S. Senate primary race, Trump said, “I trust the Great People of Missouri, on this one, to make up their own minds, much as they did when they gave me landslide victories in the 2016 and 2020 Elections, and I am therefore proud to announce that ERIC has my Complete and Total Endorsement!”
Both with Trump’s blessing, Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt and former Missouri Gov. Eric Greitens will face off against each other in the primary.
Both candidates immediately shared Trump’s endorsement on Twitter, setting up an intriguing showdown for Tuesday’s primary election in Missouri.
Schmitt shared a graphic with Trump’s endorsement, and said, “Let’s go!”
Greitens captioned a graphic of the 45th president, “Honored to have the support of President Trump! We will MAGA!”
