President Donald Trump endorsed Congressman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on Friday for Speaker of the House.
The support for the Ohio native was made public in a Truth Social post. The 45th president lauded Jordan with praise, stating that he was a “star” before his entry into national politics. The Republican representative was first elected to Congress in 2006 and has since earned leadership roles within the party. Presently, Jordan is the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.
President Trump stated that it was an “honor” to present Jordan with the nation’s most prestigious civilian award, the “Presidential Medal of Freedom.” Additionally, Trump labeled him as one who is “strong on crime, borders, our military/Vets, & 2nd Amendment.” Trump also referred to Jordan’s family as “outstanding.”
Jordan has been a stalwart supporter of President Trump and stated that Democrats are afraid that the 45th president will “win in 2024” during a speech on Capitol Hill.
The news follows the historic removal of former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., by a margin of 216 to 210 on Tuesday. Currently, Congressman Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., is the interim speaker until a vote is held to determine the nominee. In addition to Jim Jordan, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, R-La., announced his bid for the highest office with the House of Representatives.
Moreover, Congressman Greg Steube, R-Fla., would like to embark on a non-traditional approach by electing someone who is not an elected representative. On Wednesday, Steube voiced his support for President Trump as Speaker and told Fox News that he “believes” Trump is the only person who can “unite” the Republican conference.
On Thursday, Trump hinted that he might be open to the role temporarily until a Speaker is selected. However, that ship appears to have sailed as Trump offers his “complete and total endorsement” to Jim Jordan.
