President Donald Trump has endorsed Rep. Lee Zeldin, R-N.Y., just weeks before New York’s pivotal governor’s race.
Zeldin is challenging Gov. Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., in one of the most competitive gubernatorial races in the Empire State in over a decade. Following the resignation of former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Hochul has led the state with even more “extremist” liberal policies than her predecessor.
According to the New York Post, momentum has shifted toward Zeldin, despite that Hochul initially held a double-digit lead over her Republican challenger. New York is now listed as a toss-up state in the November midterm elections, giving Republicans a chance at winning a key Democrat stronghold.
As the race in New York has tightened, the 45th president has officially endorsed Zeldin after previously helping him fundraise.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump explained, “I have watched and known Congressman Lee Zeldin for many years. He is a great and brilliant lawyer who was a ‘must see’ for others in Congress when they had a complex legal problem that was holding up legislation.”
Trump added, “Lee was strong on the Border, Crime, our great Military & Vets (like few others!), and fought hard to protect our 2nd Amendment, and succeeded.”
Trump described Zeldin as “a WINNER who GOT THINGS DONE” who “will be a GREAT Governor of New York, and has my Complete & Total Endorsement. GOOD LUCK LEE!”
