President Donald Trump’s family is hosting 275 Florida Power & Light Company linemen at his Trump National Doral Miami Resort as they prepare to assist with damages from Hurricane Milton.
Trump’s son Eric Trump took to social media to offer his support of the linemen and their disaster recovery efforts.
“Honored to have 275 incredible linemen from FPL at @TrumpDoral as they get ready to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane #Milton! You are amazing and the Trump Family, and entire state of Florida, appreciates you! Enjoy the rooms – they are the best in Florida! Be safe!” Eric Trump posted to X alongside a video of the linemen on Wednesday night.
On Wednesday morning, Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that his state has prepared the largest staging of linemen in the nation’s history, with over 50,000 workers recruited to deal with the massive damage expected from Hurricane Milton.
“As soon as that storm passes, you’re going to see the assessments and the power restoration efforts commence immediately,” DeSantis said.
“We are bracing and are prepared to receive a major hit. We’re facing this with the seriousness it deserves, but also with the determination that we will get through this,” he added.
The storm knocked out power in at least 3.2 million homes and businesses across Florida Wednesday night, according to poweroutage.us.
DeSantis described the deployment of a wide range of resources, including 9,000 National Guard members from Florida and other states.
“The governor said more than 11,000 feet of flood protection systems have been set up around hospitals, wastewater facilities, and other buildings,” according to Florida Voice News. “Starlink internet has been deployed across the whole state of Florida.”
Trump took a moment to start his remarks during a Wednesday night rally in Pennsylvania to mention prayers for the people in Florida who are still recovering from Hurricane Helene.
“Before we begin, I want to send our prayers to the people in Florida getting hit right now with a violent Hurricane—as well as to all the people still recovering from Hurricane Helene. We are praying for them—and ask God to keep them safe,” he said.
