President Trump headed to the courtroom on Monday morning as the jury selection for the infamous “hush money” trial in New York City kicked off the beginning of a criminal case that has rocked the nation.
This is one of four major cases that Trump is facing amidst an election year. Despite repeated arguments to delay the proceedings, Judge Juan Merchan has proceeded with the trial as scheduled on Monday.
Ahead of the trial, Trump sent a message to Americans, slamming the judge as “totally conflicted” and scorching the legal system that has been thrown into “CHAOS.”
He wrote on Truth Social, “Election Interference like this has never happened in the USA before and, hopefully, will never happen again. We are now a Nation in serious Decline, a Failing Nation, but we will soon be a Great Nation Again.”
The president focused on ensuring that, despite the negativity surrounding the trial in NYC, he echoed a message of hope for his supporters and for Americans everywhere. He added, “November 5th will be the most important day in the History of the United States. MAGA2024! SEE YOU TOMORROW.”
The trial hinges upon alleged falsified business records related to the 2016 campaign of President Trump and involves, infamously, “hush money” payment allegations to a woman who has become a murky figure in the media: porn actress Stormy Daniels.
According to CBS News, Trump is represented in this case by attorneys Todd Blanche, Emil Bove, and Susan Necheles. The trial will take place in the Manhattan Criminal Court and could continue for as many as eight weeks with a grueling four days a week for Trump.
Chillingly, Trump could be sentenced to prison time if the jury finds him guilty on any of the counts, although that would be the steepest penalty for the president in a potential conviction.
The 45th president criticized the case as being nothing more than “Election interference” on Truth Social.
He explained:
“The Radical Left Democrats are already cheating on the 2024 Presidential Election by bringing, or helping to bring, all of these bogus lawsuits against me, thereby forcing me to sit in courthouses, and spend money that could be used for campaigning, instead of being out in the field knocking Crooked Joe Biden, the WORST President in the History of the United States.”
