President Donald Trump announced an important message for the great people of West Virginia on Tuesday amidst the state’s scheduled primary election.
In a video released online, Trump said, “West Virginia, there is a big and very important Republican primary election Tuesday for the United States Senate and other important races – and I need you to get out and vote for Big Jim Justice, there’s nobody like Big Jim!”
Republican Jim Justice is currently serving as the 36th Governor of West Virginia and is running for the state’s Senate seat. State voters may recall that Gov. Justice was initially elected as a Democrat but switched to the Republican Party in 2017.
He announced seven years ago, “Today, I will tell you, with lots of prayers and lots of thinking, I can’t help you anymore being a Democrat governor. So tomorrow, I will be changing my registration to Republican.”
Trump said in his video this week, “… he’s [Justice] strong on the border and our great military and vets, there’s nobody that treats them better, there’s nobody that loves them more. He’s for clean coal and energy dominance, something you don’t hear from a lot of politicians, but you hear it from me.”
Trump also noted that Justice “will always protect our cherished but under siege Second Amendment.”
He encouraged West Virginians to “get out and VOTE” for Justice during Tuesday’s primary election, adding, “He has done a fantastic job, he’s respected by everybody, he has my complete and total endorsement. He will just be wonderful – he’s a wonderful man.”
In a general election poll from John Zogby Strategies, sponsored by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., in a head-to-head against the third-party candidate, Trump was up 28 points in the state of West Virginia.
Tuesday’s primary in the state will mainly center on whether Gov. Justice wins the primary nomination over Republican West Virginia Rep. Alex Mooney.
