Findings from a recent poll show an increase in Latino support for a border wall and more border security.
A recent Axios-Ipsos Latino Poll, in partnership with Noticias Telemundo, has found that President Trump’s stance of tightening border security and mass deportation is now favorable among people who have ties to immigration.
According to Axios, the survey was conducted after President Trump promised to increase border security as well as carry out a mass deportation of at least 1 million people.
In a video shared to X, President Trump addresses Democrat Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Newcomer Rental Subsidy program. According to the Michigan House Republicans, the plan seeks to offer benefits to illegal immigrants who claimed asylum. These benefits include up to $500 a month for assistance with rent.
He called this plan a scam and said, “She’s calling illegal immigrants, many coming from jail, many coming from mental institutions, many are terrorists. She’s calling them newcomers.”
Trump called out the plan for what it is: a way to take people’s tax money and give free housing to illegal immigrants. He added, “When I’m president, instead of asking you to cram illegal aliens into your homes, I’ll tell the illegal aliens that they must not come into our country.”
The survey, which was conducted on March 22 -28, questioned 1,012 Hispanic and Latino adults. The poll reported by Axios found that 38 percent of the adults surveyed are in support of President Trump’s mass deportation plan. Another 64 percent of Latinos supported the idea of shutting down the U.S. borders should there be too many immigrants entering the country.
This comes as illegal immigration is at its highest. RSBN reported that Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott is pushing forward in constructing a base camp for Texas National Guard soldiers who have been deployed to secure the border and address Biden’s border crisis.
