President Donald Trump celebrated major wins for the GOP this week, including two lawmakers switching from the Democratic to the Republican Party and a Republican defeating a Democrat in Louisiana.
Trump shared the news in a post to his Truth Social account on Tuesday.
“A very big and successful week of WINS for Republicans across the Country,” he began.
“State Representative Susan Valdés from the Great State of Florida switched her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. ‘TRUMP’ was the first Republican President to win Hillsborough County since 2004!” Trump continued.
Valdes wrote about her change of party in a statement on X.
“I am tired of being the party of protesting when I got into politics to be part of the party of progress,” she said.
Florida state Rep. Berny Jacques, R-Pinellas, expressed his excitement over Valdes joining Republicans.
“Valdes now joins the countless of Floridians that have made that switch. If a lot of people will recall before Governor DeSantis came into office, there were more registered Democrats than Republicans, and now we stand at a point where there are over 1,000,000 more Republicans than Democrats registered here in the state, and now we can count Representative Valdes as one of those,” Jacques wrote.
Trump also announced a similar change by a Texas judge.
“Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina from the Great State of Texas switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. In 2024, Webb County flipped from Blue to Red for the first time in over 100 YEARS!” Trump also noted.
In a third victory, Trump shared the news of Sid Edwards winning over Democratic Mayor Shar Weston Broome in Baton Rouge.
“Republican Sid Edwards from the Great State of Louisiana defeated incumbent Democrat Mayor Sharon Weston Broome to become the first Republican elected to lead Baton Rouge since 2000,” he stated.
In a statement following his win, Edwards promised positive change for the Baton Rouge community. “When you consider the numbers, how many people are ready for change and all of you in here, with myself — we’ve said it the entire time, we are the change agent. We’re not saying that everything has been bad in Baton Rouge, we never said that but there are some things that need to change and is my promise to you as the next mayor-president, it’s going to happen,” said Edwards.
