Director of Homeland Security Kristi Noem has frozen government funding for 90 days to non-profit groups assisting illegal immigrants.
Noem shared the update during an interview on Fox News’ “The Will Cain Show” on Thursday.
“It’s amazing to me the hundreds of millions of dollars that have been spent by the federal government that has been sent to NGOs to facilitate this invasion of our country,” Noem said.
“We’re not spending another dime to help the destruction of this country,” Noem continued. “We’re going to make sure that we follow through on what President Trump has promised and that’s to make sure we are securing our borders, deporting those who are here illegally and committing criminal actions, and that our taxpayer dollars aren’t spent to help it.”
Noem traveled to New York City to join an immigration enforcement raid on Tuesday. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials detained numerous migrant criminal suspects in the sanctuary city operation.
“We are doing this right – doing exactly what President @realDonaldTrump promised the American people – making our streets safe. Live this AM from NYC. I’m on it,” Noem said in a post to X.
“Just now. Enforcement operation in NYC. Criminal alien with kidnapping, assault & burglary charges is now in custody – thanks to @ICE. Dirtbags like this will continue to be removed from our streets,” she added alongside a video in another post.
In photos shared in a third post on Tuesday morning, Noem wrote, “Arresting some criminal aliens this morning in NYC – thank you to the brave officers involved.”
The operation comes shortly after Noem was confirmed by the Senate on Saturday to lead the DHS. She previously served as the governor of South Dakota.
“The Trump Administration will once-again empower our brave men and women in law enforcement to do their jobs and remove criminal aliens and illegal gangs from our country,” she said in a statement on Saturday. “We will fully equip our intelligence and law enforcement to detect and prevent terror threats and will deliver rapid assistance and disaster relief to Americans in crisis.”
She was nominated by Trump in November to serve in the role to help make America safe again.
