On Holocaust Remembrance Day, President Trump honors Holocaust victims by designating this week as a time for Americans to reflect and recommit to fighting hatred. He also vows to combat rising antisemitism in prominent universities.
Breitbart reported that on Wednesday, President Trump published a proclamation that recognized the victims of the Holocaust while addressing the rise of anti-Jewish rhetoric in the country. The proclamation read, “On Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, and during this week of solemn remembrance, we honor the blessed memories of the six million Jewish men, women, and children who were viciously slaughtered by the genocidal Nazi regime and their collaborators.”
President Trump also takes the opportunity to reflect on the rising hate for the Jewish nation, saying, “Sadly, our Nation has borne witness to the worst outbreak of anti-Semitism on American soil in generations.” He added, “Nearly every day following the deadly October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, Jewish Americans were threatened on our streets and in our public square — a reminder that the poison of anti-Semitism tragically still exists.”
To combat this, in March, President Trump signed an executive order titled Additional Measures to Combat Anti-Semitism. In the order, President Trump had said, “It shall be the policy of the United States to combat anti-Semitism vigorously, using all available and appropriate legal tools, to prosecute, remove, or otherwise hold to account the perpetrators of unlawful anti-Semitic harassment and violence.”
Antisemitism has been on the rise, partially in American universities, and an incident tracker from Hillel International found that in the fall of 2024, there were 1,056 antisemitic incidents. Another way President Trump is working to address this issue is by signing an executive order that puts a stop to foreign dark money influence in U.S. universities. According to the Daily Caller, Harvard University allegedly received over $1 million from “Palestinian territories” since 2017, which some are now questioning the influence this funding had on the antisemitic protests at the university.
In his proclamation, President Trump emphasized, “We are also steadfastly committed to investigating and swiftly punishing all anti-Semitic discrimination in leftist, anti-American colleges and universities.”
