President Trump’s rally in the South Bronx on Thursday was historic for several reasons. He drew tens of thousands of people to Crotona Park in New York City, with the Trump campaign estimating 25,000 people in attendance, spilling into a massive overflow section and stretching across the park.
The South Bronx, which has traditionally been considered “deep blue,” showed up with massive MAGA energy on Thursday, breaking down barriers and illustrating an uptick in Republican support in one of NYC’s once-Democrat strongholds.
Trump told Fox News on the ground at Thursday’s event, “I love the people, they’re incredible, they’re energetic, they’re entrepreneurial, they’re going to save New York and we’re going to win New York. And if we win New York, the election’s over! We take over the country…I think we have a chance to win New York.”
Trump’s comments on winning the Empire State focused on Reagan-esque positivity. Former President Ronald Reagan, after all, was the last Republican to win the state of New York in 1984. No Republican has broken through the blue wall in decades.
During his speech on Thursday, Trump’s speech was routinely interspersed with cheers and chants of support. At one point, the president remarked, “Who said we’re not gonna win New York? We’re going to WIN New York!”
He spoke about the desecration of New York City and the rapid decline of American greatness on a national scale, thanks to the Biden administration’s policies and lack of leadership.
He declared, “We’re not going to let this continue. We are not going to abandon our hope and our pride. This city has given us so much, and now it is time that we are going to give it back. Together, we are going to make New York City great again and, simultaneously, we are going to make America GREAT again.”
