President Donald Trump projected confidence on Thursday when asked by a reporter if the United States should be concerned about China amid an ongoing trade war that has resulted in tariffs on both Chinese and American goods.

Should the president be worried about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent three-country visit courting Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia – a move largely seen as an attempt to accrue economic leverage against the United States?

“No,” Trump said. “…Nobody can compete with us, nobody.”

One reporter asked Trump why he didn’t “pick up the phone and make a deal.”

The president replied, “Oh, we’re going to make a deal. I think we’re going to make a very good deal with China.”

The tension between China and America has ratcheted up significantly over the past few weeks. As reported by RSBN, President Trump has effectively tariffed Chinese imports up to 145 percent so far – and he’s not budging one inch, even as China has tried to return fire with tariffs of their own.

This week, Chinese State Council official Xia Baolong attacked Vice President J.D. Vance, who has criticized the U.S. policy of essentially buying extremely cheap Chinese products from poverty-level Chinese “peasants,” according to Fox Business.

“Let those peasants in the United States wail in front of 5,000 years of Chinese civilization,” Baolong snapped.

He also remarked, “The U.S. isn’t after our tariffs but our very survival…The United States has repeatedly curbed and suppressed Hong Kong, which can only accelerate the demise of its agents…it will eventually backfire on itself.”

Despite the back-and-forth of blistering criticisms, President Trump has maintained total confidence on the issue of trade with China.

“As you know, we’ve had numerous talks, at the highest level with other countries…we’re doing very well and we’re moving along on trade very well,” he told reporters Thursday. “…The United States was ripped off and taken advantage of by every country in the world practically…that’s not going to happen anymore, but we’re going to make FAIR deals.”
