President Donald Trump on Saturday announced he will nominate State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce to serve as the next U.S. deputy representative to the United Nations, praising her as a “fantastic” addition to America’s diplomatic team.
Bruce, who assumed the spokesperson role when Trump began his second term in January, has become one of the administration’s most visible voices on foreign policy.
She has defended the president’s positions on immigration enforcement, visa restrictions, and border security and has spoken extensively on U.S. policy toward Russia’s war in Ukraine and the war in Gaza.
“I am pleased to announce that I am nominating Tammy Bruce, a Great Patriot, Television Personality and Bestselling Author, as our next Deputy Representative of the United States to the United Nations, with the rank of Ambassador,” the president wrote on Truth Social.
Bruce’s career before joining the Trump administration spanned more than two decades as a political contributor and commentator on Fox News, where she became known for her outspoken conservative commentary. She is also a best-selling author, with titles such as Fear Itself: Exposing the Left’s Mind-Killing Agenda, in which she sharply criticized progressive policies and cultural trends.
“So grateful for @POTUS’s trust in nominating me as the Deputy Representative of the US at the UN. I’ve been honored to serve as @StateDept Spokesperson, and now I’m blessed that in the next few weeks my commitment to advancing America First leadership and values continues on the global stage in this new post,” Bruce wrote on social media Saturday.
The role of deputy representative typically includes overseeing key committee work, leading negotiations on resolutions and representing the U.S. in the absence of the ambassador. Her nomination will require Senate confirmation, where she is expected to face strong support from Republicans but possible opposition from Democrats who have criticized her past commentary on social issues.
The current acting U.S. ambassador to the UN is Dorothy Shea. If confirmed, Bruce will work alongside Mike Waltz as Trump’s appointed ambassador to the UN.
