President Donald Trump spoke to the press on Thursday during an official cabinet meeting in Washington, D.C., where he offered a transparent recap of his administration’s outstanding work in making America great again.

“We had a very good meeting,” President Trump said. “We were talking about a lot of different things, consumer prices actually dropped.”

He was referring to the good news from the Consumer Price Index on Thursday, which revealed inflation had dropped to just 2.4 percent in March.

“Very little inflation, energy costs are down, inflation rates are probably down,” he continued.

Trump added, “We’re very happy with the way the country’s running, we’re trying to get the world to treat us fairly – this is something that should have been done 25 years ago.”

He noted that no other president had ever been willing to take such a monumental task on, but said he had to do it, otherwise the current situation in the United States was “not sustainable.”

Trump explained that under his tariff system and economic plan, the United States is currently taking in “approximately” $2 billion per day, but postulated that this number could be as high as $3.5 billion.

“It’s all going to work out very well…we’re in good shape,” he said.

The president also invited a few of his cabinet members to provide an update on their work to make America great again, starting with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who just returned from a trip to Panama on Wednesday night.

Hegseth revealed that the U.S. signed historic deals while there, including establishing Panama Canal authority, which creates a framework for U.S. vessels on the canal to be “first and free.” He also explained that a memorandum had been inked to allow the presence of U.S. troops in conjunction with Panama to secure the canal from Chinese influence.

“We, along with Panama, are pushing them out, sir,” Hegseth told the president.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick also remarked that, in terms of America’s global standing in the world, “We’re getting the respect we deserve now.”

Although the tariff system may result in some short-term discomfort for Americans, President Trump was firm in his remarks on Thursday that the end result would be beneficial.

“We think we’re in very good shape, we think we’re doing very well. Again, there will be transition costs…but in the end it’s going to be a beautiful thing,” he concluded.
