Trump officially subpoenaed by Jan. 6 Committee: report

President Trump has been officially subpoenaed by the partisan House Select Jan. 6 Committee investigating the supposed “insurrection” that took place at the U.S. Capitol in 2021.

Just the News reported the subpoena demands that Trump turn over documents related to the inquiry. The alleged document obtained by Disclose.tv, dated Oct. 21, 2022, lists the committee’s accusations against President Trump and its reasons for subpoenaing him:

“Because of your central role in each element of these actions, the Select Committee unanimously directed the issuance of a subpoena seeking your testimony and relevant documents in your possession on these and related topics. The subpoena calls for testimony regarding your dealings with multiple individuals who have now themselves invoked their Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination regarding their communications with you…”

The official issuance of the subpoena comes on the heels of the committee’s vote in mid-October to subpoena the 45^th president. Trump responded to their vote in a scathing 14-page letter addressed to Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss.

Per RSBN, the letter titled, “PEACEFULLY AND PATRIOTICALLY,” included a blistering rebuke of the committee’s partisan politics and its refusal to investigate nationwide reports of 2020-related election fraud. Trump also accused them of turning a blind eye toward Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s, D-Calif., refusal to honor Trump’s request to authorize National Guard at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“The people of this Country will not stand for unequal justice under the law, or Liberty and Justice for some,” Trump wrote in the letter. “Election Day is coming. We demand answers on the Crime of the Century.”

Just the News reported that the official subpoena from the panel requests Trump to appear before them to testify on Nov. 14.

RSBN previously reported that a source familiar with the president told Fox News that Trump “loves the idea of testifying” in front of the Jan. 6 Committee.

The Associated Press speculated that Trump may comply with the committee’s request, negotiate or defy it, or go to court to stop it. However, it is not clear at this point what President Trump’s legal response to the official subpoena will be.
