High-ranking members of President Trump’s administration have slammed liberal media outlets for spreading false information regarding the removal of illegal immigrants.
Breitbart reported that the Department of Homeland Security recently called out an NBC News article for publishing an article about use-of-force incidents and illegal alien arrests without the full story.
In a post shared to social media platform X, the DHS called NBC’s article “DISGUSTING, even for fake news.”
The article in question was published on Wednesday under the headline: “Chicago residents say immigration enforcement is leading to children getting tear-gassed.” The article described the experience of a 2-year-old who was allegedly exposed to tear gas deployed by Border Patrol agents on a Saturday morning in Chicago.
DHS slammed this false reporting writing, “Here’s the REAL STORY: Border Patrol Conducted an operation that resulted in the arrest of a criminal illegal alien from Mexico, who has previously been arrested for assault.”
The DHS post details how Border Patrol agents were surrounded and boxed in by a group of agitators who ignored the multiple warnings. The DHS wrote, “To safely clear the area after multiple warnings and the crowd continuing to advance on them, Border Patrol had to deploy crowd control measures.”
It added, “Our officers are facing a 1000% increase in assaults against them.”
AP News reported that Border Patrol Commander Gregory Bovino applauded his agents’ aggressive tactics in Chicago, which he said are necessary to combat the threats his agents are facing.
“I didn’t have any reason to think it would be this bad, but it’s far worse than I ever thought,” Bovino told AP News. His agents are continuously met with whistles, honking horns, and rocks thrown at them.
In another incident, the Los Angeles Times published an article with the headline: “Video: Armed agents drive off with child after detaining her father.” The article focused on so-called dangers that the federal agents put on the child strapped into the back seat during an incident in Cypress Park, Los Angeles. In reality, agents were responding to the child’s father, who exited the vehicle with a stolen handgun and threw rocks at the agents.
United States Attorney for the Southern District of California Bill Essayli responded to the article shared online, saying, “Not sure why this is so difficult for you and other reporters to understand. Anyone who assaults or interferes with federal agents will be arrested and charged with a federal crime.”
