Rep. Joe Wilson, R-S.C., has announced his plans to propose a $250 bill featuring President Donald Trump to honor the president while boosting the economy.
Breitbart reported that Wilson announced on the social media platform X that Wilson is drafting legislation to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing that introduces a new $250 bill with President Trump’s face on it.
In his post, he wrote, “Grateful to announce that I am drafting legislation to direct the Bureau of Engraving and Printing to design a $250 bill featuring Donald J. Trump.” Accompanying the post was a mockup of the design and President Trump’s face.
Wilson’s reasoning behind the idea was to boost the value of cash since more Americans are using it. In his post on X, he wrote, “Bidenflation has destroyed the economy forcing American families to carry more cash. Most valuable bill for most valuable President!”
According to the New York Post, a survey conducted by Talker Research on behalf of Chime revealed that 52 percent of Americans agree that cash is still king, while only 25 percent believe it is an outdated payment method, proving Wilson’s point.
The New York Post reported what Janelle Sallenave, Chime’s Chief Spending Officer, said about cash, “Contrary to what many may believe, cash still plays a key role today,” and added, “Compared to five years ago, 34% of all Americans are more likely to carry cash today.”
Wilson’s proposal will mean changing a long-standing tradition. Breitbart reported that while the Treasury Department chooses individuals whose places in history the American people know, the 1866 Act of Congress prohibits the appearance of living individuals on currency and coins.
If Wilson’s proposal is successful, this will be the first time since 1945 that bills in denominations of over $100 will be printed and the first time the country will have ever printed a $250 bill. It would most certainly be the most valuable bill for a valuable president.
