President Donald Trump promised to release the rest of the still-top secret files related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in 1963 if the 45th president is reelected to the Oval Office in 2024.
Human Events Senior Editor Jack Posobiec tweeted a quote from Trump to Marc Caputo of The Messenger, where the 45th president promised during an interview that he would “release the remaining portion” of the files surrounding the shrouded assassination “very early” in his second term.
In 2017, President Trump released thousands of documents related to the assassination, as per a previously set deadline from the 1992 Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act.
Trump, however, delayed a full release of the files from 2018 to October 2021 amid reported concerns from the CIA and FBI. Joe Biden then halted the release until December 2022 and later authorized a partial release with thousands of files still redacted or kept classified.
Caputo inquired about a discussion that allegedly took place between Trump and Judge Andrew Napolitano, of which the 45th president reportedly told the judge, “if you saw what I saw, you would know why I can’t release [the JFK files].”
Trump responded to Caputo, “I released a lot, as you know. And I will release everything else.”
“There was nothing in there that the public should be scared about, or that makes the U.S. look terrible?” asked Caputo.
“Well, I don’t want to comment on that,” Trump replied back. “But I will tell you that I have released a lot. I will release the remaining portion very early in my term.”
President Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald, who was a former defector from the Soviet Union, and once a U.S. Marine.
Oswald shot and killed Kennedy, and wounded Gov. John Connally, who was riding in the president’s motorcade through Dealey Plaza, from the sixth floor of the Texas School Book Depository Building.
Although Oswald was arrested, he was never tried because he was killed on live television by nightclub owner Jack Ruby, also a suspected mob associate, during a transfer at the Dallas Police headquarters.
Nonetheless, many details of the assassination have remained shrouded for six decades, leading to more speculation.
An investigation by the Warren Commission concluded that Oswald had acted alone. However, the federal government’s redaction and classification of documents related to the case have led many to theorize that some United States officials may have played a role in the president’s assassination.
Members of Kennedy’s family, including Robert Kennedy Jr., who is seeking the 2024 Democrat presidential nomination, have suggested that “the CIA was involved” in the former president’s assassination. A 1979 report from the House Select Committee also insinuated that there may have been two shooters.
If Trump delivers on his promise to release the remaining files, the details of the case may change the course of history.
