President Donald Trump waded into the House Republicans’ internal battle over an impending government shutdown, including a controversial continuing resolution, which House GOP members call the “CR.”

While some Republicans are divided on how to approach the heated negotiations in Congress, President Trump made his message clear, pushing the GOP to “defund” the government led by “Crooked Joe Biden.”

On Truth Social, Trump wrote this week, “A very important deadline is approaching at the end of the month. Republicans in Congress can and must defund all aspects of Crooked Joe Biden’s weaponized Government that refuses to close the Border, and treats half the Country as Enemies of the State.”

The president also explained that this was “the last chance to defund these political prosecutions against me and other Patriots.”

In 2023, President Trump was indicted four times and even faced an arrest and mugshot in Fulton County, Georgia, in August.

Trump noted that Republicans had “failed on the debt limit, but they must not fail now.” He added, “Use the power of the purse and defend the Country!”

As previously reported by RSBN, Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., has attempted to contain the internal conflict within the Republican Party, as some party members have called to support the CR. Others, like Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., have strongly opposed it.

The CR would allow the federal government to remain in operation until October, although there would be some cuts in spending, per RSBN.

On X, Rep. Gaetz reiterated the president’s stance on the negotiations, writing, “Trump Opposes the Continuing Resolution. Hold the line.”

Trump ally and likely Arizona U.S. Senate candidate Kari Lake noted, “I agree with President Donald Trump…Please continue to hold the line!”
