President Donald Trump took a moment to speak to the press in Atlanta, Georgia, just before boarding his plane, Trump Force One, after being booked and processed in the Fulton County jail.
The president said it was “a very sad day” and defiantly held his ground on the issue of election integrity, noting that in 2020, “it was a rigged election, a stolen election.”
The 41 charges he faces in Georgia are related to phone calls that the president made in 2020 to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger concerning election integrity.
The president told the press that other people like Hillary Clinton had questioned the legitimacy of election processes in America but had never been indicted or charged for doing so.
“What has taken place here is a travesty of justice…I did nothing wrong,” he said.
He also called the ongoing legal persecution he has been facing “election interference.”
Trump concluded, “There’s never been anything like it in our country before – this is a way of campaigning…we did nothing wrong at all, and we had every right, every single right to challenge an election.”
