President Trump was quick to lambast Joe Biden’s handling of the southern border crisis on Tuesday, saying that Biden’s “open borders policy” has left the United States “more vulnerable” to terrorist attacks than ever before.
“With the millions and millions of people that crooked Joe Biden has allowed into the United States through his ridiculous open borders policy, mostly young men and large numbers of terrorists—the United States is more vulnerable from inside terror attacks than at any time in its history,” Trump said in a video posted to his Truth Social on Tuesday.
Trump then accused Biden of allowing people from prisons and similar institutions to freely enter the country.
“Biden is allowing people from prisons and jails,” Trump added. “He’s allowing people from mental institutions and insane asylums—’Silence of the Lambs,’ Hannibal Lecter, remember?”
Trump also accused his opponent of treating the nation “like a dumping ground,” allowing terrorists to come “at numbers never seen before.”
“He’s gotta be defeated in 2024,” said Trump. “He’s gotta be defeated, or this country is never gonna make it.”
The immigration crisis has been a major cause for concern among many Americans, as illegal border crossings have hit a record high under Joe Biden.
Since Biden took office in January 2021, an estimated 10 million people have illegally crossed the southern border, according to data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
In 2023 alone, more than three million people allegedly crossed the southern border unlawfully—a figure nearly five times greater than President Trump’s final year in office from 2020, according to CBP.
Biden’s open border policies also gained the attention of several prominent lawmakers on Tuesday, as several concerned senators gathered on Capitol Hill to highlight the horrific crimes being facilitated on the southern border.
“This is an administration that doesn’t want to secure the border…they want eight million to become 10, to become 12, to become 20 million…” said Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.
He highlighted the fact that under the Trump administration, when border authorities would DNA test men crossing the border with accompanying children, roughly 30 percent of them were not related. Joe Biden and his administration have since ended the policy, effectively eliminating U.S. border authorities’ ability to discern if minors are being trafficked.
“The cartels are literally renting children to grown men and we were looking at children that were in all likelihood in the process of being sex trafficked,” said Cruz.
