The Supreme Court has agreed to consider a case to decide whether President Trump can claim presidential immunity.

In response to the D.C. Circuit rejecting President Trump’s claim to immunity from the alleged 2020 election charges, RSBN reported that President Trump’s attorneys have appealed to the Supreme Court to halt this rejection of immunity.

President Trump’s attorneys said the ruling “threatens immediate irreparable injury to the First Amendment interests of President Trump and tens of millions of American voters.”

Now, the Supreme Court has accepted this challenge, agreeing to hear arguments and issue a ruling on the immunity claim.

According to AP News, a trial could be expected in late summer if the claim is rejected. However, this is uncertain. For now, the case has been halted.

The Supreme Court will hear the arguments during the week of April 22 before taking a preliminary vote on the ruling.

AP News reported that the court’s justices explained that they would decide “whether and if so to what extent does a former President enjoy presidential immunity from criminal prosecution for conduct alleged to involve official acts during his tenure in office.”

The time it will take the Supreme Court to make their decision is still unknown.

In response to the Supreme Court’s ruling, President Trump wrote on Truth Social, “A President has to be free to determine what is right for our Country without undue pressure. If there is no Immunity, the Presidency, as we know it, will ‘no longer exist.’ Many actions for the benefit of our Country will not be taken.”

President Trump added, “This is in no way what the Founders had in mind. Legal Experts and Scholars have stated that the President must have Full Presidential Immunity.”
